A Venison Crock-Pot Roast; this venison recipe is a great way to prepare your venison roast. You can easily prepare this venison roast recipe ahead of time; early in the morning, you just plug your crock-pot in, and go about your business or deer hunting for the day. When you come home in the evening after a long days work, or day of deer hunting, your venison roast is done to perfection. Here is another cooking tip that please all the deer hunters at your dinner table. If you have a bread maker; program it, and make a loaf of bread to be done at the same time you plan to eat your crock-pot venison roast. Oh my; your home, or hunting shack, will smell so good! Make sure you have lots of butter on hand.
A 3 - 4 pound trimmed venison roast.
2 pounds of peeled potato's (or, small washed red potato's)
1 pound mini-carrots
2 -3 stalks of celery - sliced/diced
1/2 cubed rutabaga
1 cup of shredded cabbage
1 medium onion sliced or diced (personal preference)
1 tablespoon salt
1 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1 teaspoon Chinese Five seasoning
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 15 oz. can beef stock
If you have the time; here is a great cooking tip. Brown your venison roast first. Rub you venison roast with salt. Brown each side of the venison roast in a cast iron skillet with hot olive oil.
While venison roast is browning; combine all liquid ingredients and seasonings in a 5 quart crock-pot; swish with a whisk. Place browned venison roast in crock-pot. Add all vegetables. Fill with water to within 1 inch of the crock-pot lid. Cover and turn on low to cook for 8 to 10 hours while you go to work or go off deer hunting.
Serve with freshly baked bread, butter, and favorite beverage. Yum! Yum!
