Deer Hunting Tips For Trophy Deer

We can all learn something new; wouldn't it be nice to learn some new trophy deer hunting tips that you can apply to your whitetail deer hunting strategies?  I think so too.  As a whitetail deer hunter you may already know many deer hunting tips that will help you bag that trophy buck.  But you never know, you may just pick up on one trophy deer hunting tip you haven't heard of or thought of yet.

Hunting At Mid-day

Here is a deer hunting tip.  Do you know that when hunting whitetail deer during, or close to the peak of the rut, one of the best times to be in your hunting stand is around 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..  Why, some may ask?  A large trophy buck who has been chasing the does all night (nocturnal activity, especially during certain moon phases) will usually bed down just before daybreak and sleep a while.  After a trophy buck has rested a little, he is ready to check out his girl-friends (the does) again.  Right around mid-day.  Where are a lot of hunters around mid-day?  That's right, back at camp snoozing off their mid-day brunch.  Point being; if you must leave your stand you might be better off to do it just before other hunter's feel the need to do it.  If I feel the need to get off my hunting stand, I will force my self to leave after the first hour or so and be back within an hour.  You will need to get back in your stand before mid-morning.  Now when other hunter's feel the need to move about, and stumble back to camp for brunch and some nap time, you'll be back in your stand waiting for that trophy deer to come around looking for his sweetie and afternoon delight.

You Stink

Another hunting tip that is often talked about, but I see hunter's disregarding it all the time is scent control.  I can't count the times I've seen deer hunter's dressed to go hunting at gas stations filling up there gas tanks or stopping for coffee and rolls.  Or, how about hunter's in smoke filled bars with their hunting clothes on; now that would be a great hunting tip to make note of?  Now does anyone think a deer, whose nose is a thousand times as sensitive as ours, won't smell them or know where they have walked?  Hunting tip; keep your hunting gear and hunting clothes as sent free as possible.  Clean your hunting products with scent free detergents, preferably ones marketed for deer hunter's.  More deer hunting tips; wear rubber, over-the-calf hunting boots; and tuck your pants into your boots.  Try not to brush up against brush or branches in your hunting area.  Don't smoke or use tobacco products in the outdoors.  It stinks and deer know it's not natural.  If you do smoke or use tobacco be sure to mask your breath odor, brush your teeth and whole mouth with baking soda and then use a breath odor cover-up.  I don't use any tobacco products but will still chew on a few pine needles for breath odor control.  Do you practice good scent control on your deer hunting stand?

scent control urine bottle with cup holder

Always, always use some sore of bottle/container, with a screw on cover to mask urine scent.  There is even a plastic travel urinal for women.  I know of no one who can hold their bladder all day.  Or even just a few hours of prime deer hunting time.  Do you like a couple cups of coffee or caffeinated beverage in the early morning.  Do you bring a thermos of coffee or soup with you to your hunting stand?  After a couple hours on stand what happens?  You find yourself getting uncomfortable.  I got to go.  But  you try to wait it out, you get fidgety.  You start to go through sudden movements of uneasiness.  Also, what happens when the temperature drops, and it gets cold; that's right,  it is even worse to try and hold natures calling.  That brings you to the next subject.

Do They See You?

Whitetail deer notice movement; any movement!  You are in their back yard.  They know what that tree you are in looks like. They unknowingly say and ask themselves.  Is there something different about that tree today.  Yah!  Someone or something is doing the crappie out of water flop in it.  They must be practicing bladder control; completely un-natural.  That tree never moved like that before; I better runaway and fast.

Full body camouflage for success

One other hunting tip is to camouflage yourself; blend in, cover-up.  Success at archery hunting doesn't happen if you stick out like a sore thumb.  If fact, any method of deer hunting.  Wear clothing that will blend in with the your hunting area.  Don't were blue jeans.  The ultraviolet light reflected by them will look like a lighted neon sign to a deer.  Don't use any laundry detergents with brightener's.  Don't position your hunting stand so you are silhouetted against the sky or other background.

Think Like A Deer

These are just a few common sense deer hunting tips.  Start thinking like a trophy deer.  What bad hunting habits do you have that you don't give much thought to.  Change them; dedicate yourself to become a better deer hunter.   Subscribe to a few good hunting magazines, they are full of good deer hunting tips.  Bow hunting magazines would be a good start because archery hunter's have to get close to their game to be successful.  I can and will give you many great deer hunting tips; but you have to apply them to become a successful trophy deer hunter.  Maybe, just maybe, one of these hunting tips will help you harvest that set of whitetail deer antlers you can be proud of.  Good luck deer hunting.
