Practicing deer hunting safety may save your life someday. Hunting safety cannot be taken for granted. Safely hunting whitetail deer can be taught and must always be practiced when hunting. All it takes is a mental lapse for only a split moment and it could change your life, a loved ones, or someone else's forever.
In our great country, states have mandatory hunter safety education programs for young and old hunters alike. It doesn't matter whether your hunting with a rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, pistol or archery hunting; hunting whitetail deer safely is a must.
Even if your hunting alone, accidents can happen. A deer hunter can stumble over a branch and fall while walking to a hunting stand. You could easily trip over your own hunting equipment. If you have a firearm of any type, you need to think and practice hunting safety. Your deer hunting stand must be secure and safe; and always wear a safety harness if your off the ground. Deer hunting safety harnesses are saving countless lives and serious injuries every year.

Deer hunters are becoming more mobile each and every year as portable hunting stands and deer hunting ladder stands have become popular, safer, and easy to use. Here a deer hunter is on the look out during Northern Minnesota's firearm season in November of 2008. On private property; these stands can be left in the woods year round. This helps deer get use to seeing them and walking right by. These stands have the added advantage of being relatively inexpensive to buy and maintain. Once set up and adjusted; these stands can be secured with high strength ratchet straps. They are solid to use, quiet, and easy to camouflage with a burlap wrap or a bunch of branches.
There are hunting supplies and products geared towards safe deer hunting. When archery hunting whitetail deer, we keep our hunting arrows with razor sharp broad heads in it's archery quiver so we don't severely cut ourselves. We must wear a safety harness when hunting from a tree stand of any type or design. We should have safety items and a first aid kit in a hunting daypack.

When deer hunting we need to dress for safety.

One way we do this is by wearing blaze orange hunting clothes
when hunting with rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, and pistols. Another
example of clothing safety is cold weather gear for deer hunting in extreme
conditions of cold weather. Layering your hunting
clothing is so important. Between every layer of clothes you will have a
dead air space. This is what really insulates a person from cold temperatures.

At any time that a deer hunter is afield, they can find themselves in a precarious situation that demands clear thought and reasonable thinking. If hunting with a rifle, greater care must be taken for nothing is bulletproof. Hunter's need to be sure of their big game and target. We need to know what is behind our game also. A high power bullet can carry a long ways; up to a mile or more. A deer hunter needs to know the hunting land they are hunting on and where people's homes, outbuildings and livestock are located. A good set of binoculars will help to identify game and let you know what's behind it. A good quality rangefinder will let a hunter know if that trophy whitetail deer is within his/her shooting range. On guided trophy deer hunts a hunter may be miles from the nearest road and hours away from the nearest hospital. A safe deer hunter will have situational awareness. This hunter will keep a circle of hunting safety, mentally and physically around them at all times. We must hunt safe, our loved ones depend on it.
